About the Project
Our customers spoke and we listened: small business owners' biggest pain point is keeping up with their accounting
Whether doing bookkeeping themselves or offloading the work to an accountant, our customers struggle with accounting. And, as qualitative and quantitative data show, they are mostly doing accounting in QuickBooks. Because Novo already integrates with other tools, we knew we could design a solution through an integration.
But accounting is a very broad term, what do business owners actually spend the most time doing?
The team knew that in offering a QuickBooks integration, we wouldn't be able to do everything. By leveraging customer surveys, I was able to rapidly test a hypothesis that uncovered expense categories and profit & loss reports as the top two data points for Novo customers using QuickBooks.
The solution was to streamline financial management by surfacing accounting insights… but wait, there's more!
I conducted synchronous and asynchronous testing to further land on a visual solution where QuickBooks expense category and P&L insights are shown to users via a widget. I then identified an opportunity to combine this widget with Reserves, Novo's beloved budgeting feature. With just two clicks, users can auto-magically create envelopes within their checking account to set aside money for their top expenses from QuickBooks.
